LORI CORDA: Registered Yoga Teacher, IM=X Pilates, AFAA, AIFE
Lori Corda is a Registered Yoga Teacher through The Yoga Alliance,
holds a Yoga Teacher Certification from the Anusara School of Yoga, a Pre and Post-Natal Yoga Certification through The Integral Yoga Institute and an IM=X Pilates Certification. Originally from Maryland, Lori first started teaching fitness professionally while earning her bachelors degree in music from East Carolina University.
A Career in Music
After graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. “Part of the joy of performing on stage is making people feel good.” Lori found she received a lot of that same positive feedback while working with people through exercise and the medicine of laughter. While in New York City, Lori worked with clients in their homes, in gyms and in upscale spas and hotels.
A Move to the Foothills of NC
In 2009, Lori and her family traded in their city shoes for a more tranquil existence in the foothills of western North Carolina. A month after moving, she opened up her own private studio, appropriately christened, The Tree House.
Are you ready for my Aha! Moment of the day?
I took a private session with Ray Berta this afternoon. He pointed out that when my horse is tracking right, I tend to lean a little left, and when I ask my horse to slow down, I lean back. I should always be centered and square on the horse’s back. So he came over and positioned my upper body. It was EXACTLY the way you readjust me (every time!) in Warrior 1! So I said, “Oh, it’s just like yoga.”
Well, the guy beamed! He said it’s exactly like yoga. Then he told me to drop the reins, and he proceeded to move my horse around, left, right, spin (not that fast, mind you), and I had to ride from my core only, with the horse, and not get jerked when he made a sudden move. A trainer I used to ride with, two years ago, had done the same exercise with me, and I was all over the place. Today, I stuck most of the time. I found that if I put my arms to my side, like in Tadasana, I was more balanced and stronger.
Ray said I had a good core, but I’m not using it when I ride–or at least, not using it properly. If I didn’t use it at all, I’d fall off! LOL! Anyway, the point is that I don’t think I’d have been able to stick with this exercise if it weren’t for your classes! Yay!
Having never done Yoga before, but having it recommended by friends due to Arthritis in the neck and back I figured I would give it a try. I was connected with Lori and found her not only patient, but designing yoga positions and exercises that dramatically improved my flexibility and strengthened my core. It not only has helped almost totally eliminate any pain in the back, shoulders and hips it has dramatically improved my balance and stamina.
I thank Lori for providing me the physical and mental development that has made a remarkable difference to my health.
Lori consistently brings grace, energy, and expertise to every class. She is gifted at addressing each person’s unique needs, and constantly varies the sessions by bringing new ideas and inspiration. Lori is not only an extraordinary teacher but a lovely, balanced person with an engaging personality and a calming influence.
She has helped me become stronger, more flexible, and more grounded. Whether you are brand new to yoga or experienced, I cannot recommend her highly enough.
